Accessibility

Pretty Ugly Things is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone, and applying the relevant accessibility standards.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. Pretty Ugly Things is not assessed.

Additional accessibility considerations

This website has been designed following WCAG best practices. Website design is by the store owner and operator. I applied prior experience from creating accessible in-person and online course content, and from being part of the team to build the first fully accessible online museum exhibit in Nevada.

I have also applied my own experience of what I find irritating and distracting on other websites. I’ve tried to keep things simple: readable font, no ads, no chat windows popping up, no flashy animations, no pop-ups asking you to sign up for the newsletter. Descriptions and articles are written to be clear and communicate key information for a general audience; nothing has been written for SEO performance, and there is no text generated by AI.

Feedback

I have personally tested the features on this website to ensure they are accessible, but I know that isn't the same as how you might experience the site. Feedback and suggestions are welcome.
