Calcite on light brown druzy
Calcite on light brown druzy
Locale: Santa Eulalia, Chihuahua, Mexico
Approx dimensions: 4 x 2.5 x 1"
Approx weight: 114g
This calcite for Santa Eulalia has yellow-brown druzy on an iron-oxide matrix, with two larger calcite crystals perched atop. Coloration is caused by iron. The calcite druzy is not super sparkly because the crystal growth is a bit irregular and coated in a dusting of brown iron in places. It shows interesting intersecting crystal growth with some beveled-pyramid shaped crystals visible. The larger calcite crystals on the specimen are fairly colorless and clear.
UV reactivity Moderate white fluorescence under 365nm UV light, with a stronger light yellow reaction from the larger crystals.
** Brittle warning! This material is brittle and may shed pieces, limit handling.
** Staining warning! The soft matrix on the back will leave red-brown dusty staining on surfaces.
