Inner Mongolian quartz, double-terminated
Inner Mongolian quartz, double-terminated
Locale: HuangGangLiang mining district, Inner Mongolia, China
Approx point length: 3"
Approx weight: 40g
These quartz points are from HuangGangLiang, and commonly called Mongolian or Inner Mongolian quartz. This isn't your typically shiny quartz; the points have a matte luster with a sheen effect, producing a ghostly appearance. This point is translucent, with a milky off-white color likely tinted olive-gray by hedenbergite. Spherical black inclusions are visible inside.
There is one main point with several smaller ones on its base. The luster and color of this piece make its form excellent form more apparent, with good symmetry and straight edges. The main point is double-terminated, with the base split into two points. The crystal intersecting with the base of the point is also double-terminated.
One side of the piece has a light brown mineral deposited on the surface. It appears bumpy because the black spherical inclusions break the surface on this side.
