These quartz points are from HuangGangLiang, and commonly called Mongolian or Inner Mongolian quartz. This isn't your typically shiny quartz; this pair of long straight points is completely coated in a dull mineral crust.

On one side, the piece displays two elegant sleek long quartz crystals. Broken ends reveal the first generation of growth was an icy clear colorless quartz. A second generation of growth occurred, depositing a thin sandy white crust on top. Studied closely, the crust appears composed of small white bumps.

On the other side, the pair is nearly completely covered in a mess of unknown opaque minerals. There are some very small calcite crystals sprinkled on the piece, which will fluoresce under 365nm UV light. I suspect the black material could be poorly-formed specularite hematite. I’ll admit even with magnification my eyes aren’t good enough to tell what going on here—email me if you know about this material, I’d love to learn more!
