Echinopsis eyriesii "Easter Lily Cactus"
Family Cactaceae
Subfamily Cactoideae
Tribe Cereeae
Subtribe Trichocereinae
Genus Echinopsis
Species eyriesii
Common name(s) Easter lily cactus, Sea urchin cactus
Echinopsis eyriesii is one of the more common varieties of ornamental echinopsis available due to its robust growth and large trumpet flowers. The buds stretch out on long stalks before opening to reveal white flowers, tinged with pink outer petals. Eyriesii is a night bloomer, but if weather is on the cool side you may get to enjoy the flower for a good part of the day before they fade.
The cactus does well in a bowl where it will stay low and spread out with pups around it, but it can eventually outgrow bowls and reach several feet in size.
