Pink chalcedony nodules have been discovered across the southwest, and were prolific from this locale back in the 1990s. Today are much harder to come by—at least with any size or quality.

Pink chalcedony often forms shapes like a nest, cup, or knobby "ear" with raised curved rims of snaking banding. 'Agate' refers to chalcedony with banded color, whereas this chalcedony has banded structure. It has a dynamic, fluid appearance similar to its relative hyalite, as if someone piped icing on a cake when it was still warm so it's starting to melt down the sides.

This specimen is good-sized, with two large 'clamshells' of faint pink chalcedony with concentric banding, back-to-back and forming a raised edge. What this specimen lacks in color, it makes up for in form, with undulating thick edges and knobby botryoidal forms. Some opaque whitish layers form agate banding of white and translucent chalcedony, most apparent in the middle of the concentric banding.

UV reactivity this material has an excellent UV reaction, most pieces glowing a strong green under 365nm UV light. This piece has a very good UV reaction, with the main chalcedony formations glowing a strong green. There is also a vein of chalcedony through the matrix that has an even more vivid reactionNo phosphorescence detected.
