Unakite is a beautiful combination of green epidote spotted with peachy-pink orthoclase feldspar. It can also contain patches or veins of white-to-colorless quartz. Unakite is typically sold polished to best reveal its color and pattern; unpolished stone is far more pale in color and can look similar to granite. This is because Unakite actually is a form of granite altered by metamorphism.

Unakite is one of my favorite polished materials due to its unusual color combination. It polishes well and is hard enough that it is commonly used in jewelry, carved into designs, or even used for larger decorative objects like stone boxes and vases. These carved unakite mushrooms are a nice addition to your collection, or a lovely accent piece in a terrarium or vivarium.
